From Moel Siabod to gorge scrambles, the great outdoors remains at the heart of Kingswood life.
Ask almost any Old Kingswoodian about their school days and a residential trip will come up. The blistered feet, the questionable hostel breakfasts, the friend who insisted on packing a hairdryer for a camping trip. Those memories endure long after the photographs fade.
This week our Year 9 cohort returned to one of the school's most beloved traditions, the Wales residential. Some groups headed out under canvas after their expeditions, while others took on the climb of Moel Siabod, the rugged Snowdonia peak that has tested many a Kingswood pupil over the decades. A water-filled gorge scramble rounded out the adventure for several groups, and the resilience and teamwork on display were genuinely heartwarming to see.
Mr Clarke returned to school looking, in his own words, thoroughly defeated. We suspect a few of you reading this will recognise that particular brand of staff exhaustion from your own residential leaders over the years.
If you remember your own Kingswood adventure trip, whether to Wales, the Lakes, the Brecon Beacons or further afield, we would love to hear from you. Send us your stories, your photographs and the names of the teachers who marched you up the mountain. We will gather the best of them for a future feature.
